Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing Report, March April 2013
Winter just will not its grasp of south Florida go. We have had 3 major cold fronts hit the Boca Grande, Charlotte Harbor area in the last 4 weeks with another projected next week. The water tepms are hovering around the 70 degree mark but we haven’t had any consistant warm weather. I have not seen any tarpon as of today (March 21), I have been looking about every other day. This time last year I was consistantly catching tarpon in Charlotte Harbor. I would suspect the tarpon will show up sometime around the second week of April, which is when they normally start to show up good.
Flats fishing remains the best bet. The sardines really have been hit or miss but there is some bait around. There have been some nice schools of redfish in Pine Island Sound but they have been a little spooky and the cold fronts have made even redfishing inconsistant. I have a full schedual next week so I will have a more detailed report.
