2017 April- July Boca Grande tarpon fishing season
January 2, 2017Boca Grande fishing report May and June 2017
July 25, 2017January 18th Boca Grande/Charlotte Harbor fishing report
The fishing this past month in Boca Grande was really good, I fished just about everyday from December 26th through the first week of January. The tripletail fishing was fantastic, most days a 3 man limit of triple tail could be caught in a hour, most of the triple tails were in the 8-12 pound range which is really good for our area. I fished a few days out of Captiva and ran about a mile offshore and caught a bunch of nice bonita as well as kingfish. The nearshore bite has been really good as the water temps were still in the high 70’s around Christmas time.
I ventured into the backcountry a handful of days and caught some really nice trout, I had some first time fisherman so I was using shrimp and a popping cork. Mixed in with the trout were some really nice oversized redfish, we caught the reds on shrimp as well as cut pinfish. I foresee the fishing remaining consistent through this winter and I expect we will have a early tarpon season this year. We have had a few cold fronts but most of our days we are seeing above average weather in the 80’s, if this pattern holds through February then I will start looking for tarpon around mid March, last year tarpon fishing didn’t fire up until the third week of April.
