The tarpon fishing in Boca Grande has been great thus far in July. The crowds are all but gone and just like any typical July in Boca Grande the fish are here in big numbers and they are hungry. There have been plenty of tarpon along the beaches of Boca Grande as well as the local passes including Boca Grande Pass. I will continue to fish the beaches and passes until the tarpon fishing inside Charlotte Harbor get more reliable, which will be any day now. There is plenty of bait inside the harbor so once the tarpon moves up there in good numbers the fishing has very good potential.
The bait of choice has still been threadfins and crabs, although as we progress through the summer the tarpon tend to have a better taste for live threads. I have been averaging about 7 hook ups sp far this July in a 6-8 hour trip, much higher than my average was in June. Huge numbers of fish doesn’t always mean huge amounts of hook-ups.
As normal I will continue to fish for tarpon well into October. July is 100% booked and August is about 50% booked. I still have a few days open in September and October is basically wide open as well. I can be reached at 239-825-8791 for questions about booking a trip. I will upload so pics to this report when I get some free time, off to the boat ramp for another fun filled day of catching florida tarpon in Boca Grande!
