Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing 2013 recap
Well, where do I start? 2013 provided some of the best tarpon fishing seen in Boca Grande, Charlotte Harbor for five years. It seemed to me that our area was finally back to a normal rain pattern. My season started on April 9, 2013 this year. Early in April the tarpon fishing was fantastic, just like it continued to be throughout summer and fall. Early in April the bite would be at a slightly different time just about every day of the month, one day the bite would be good in the moring and the next day the bite would be mid afternoon. Once May rolled around and the out of town guides showed up, I had already been tarpon fishing for nealry a month.
Boca Grande Pass area, May, June 2013
The fishing continued to be great this year all the way through June. This isn’t the best time to fish for tarpon in Boca Grande but it is the busiest. The morning bite was off the charts this year and the afternoon bite well, was just average. Seemed as the season progressed the boat pressure shut the fish down little by little as the day went on. My overall opinion on fishing in these two months is that the tarpon fishing was very good.
The best time! August through October
All I can say about the tarpon fishing in Boca Grande in the late summer/early fall is WOW!!! I can assure you that the best tarpon fishing in the world was in Charlotte Harbor for the last 3 months. Double digit hook ups were the norm, not the exception. It is truley a sight to behold to witness thousands of tarpon feeding at once with hardley any boats in sight.
